While we plan to update you about recent developments in a next news message, we first want to inform you about short term plans.

There were some reports about unexpected race results. We have completed our checks and this did not reveal a calculation bug However, it identified aspects of race result calculation that we intend to adjust for future competitions, starting with the influence of heat number and heat composition.

For version 3.5130, we are preparing two changes:
- Reduced influence of heat number. Its weight will be reduced by 60% for newly prepared, eligible season-108 meetings, keeping the current heat composition. This reduces the advantage associated with later heats. Under otherwise identical conditions, those heats can produce slower times than with the current formula. The impact depends on the heat number.
- New heat composition from season 109. Heat sizes will differ by no more than one athlete, with the best seed times placed in the later heats. For example, 17 athletes on an eight-lane track will form groups of 5, 6 and 6 instead of 8, 8 and 1. Within each heat, the best-seeded athletes will continue to receive the central lanes.

These changes concern individual timed races run in lanes, including sprint and hurdle events such as the 400m hurdles, their youth equivalents and eligible individual races within combined events. Relays, jumps, throws and races without lanes are outside this adjustment.

Weather influence is also under analysis, with a view to revising it for season 109. The scope of that revision is still being assessed.

The new heat rules will apply to eligible meetings prepared after activation. Meetings already prepared will retain their existing rules. Historical results, rankings, records and invitations will not be recalculated.

We also plan to show your athletes’ recorded race attitude in the results-by-heat view, with the same visibility rules as the overall results.
